The Wind Tunnel The Welsh School of Architecture at the University of Wales College of Cardiff
The Welsh School of Architecture at the University of Wales College of Cardiff has a boundary layer wind tunnel manufactured by Thames Valley Pattern Works Ltd. at Tedding, Middlesex for British Gas and which was donated by the latter to the School in 1993.
The tunnel length is approximately 13 meters with a cross-section of 2 m wide and 1 m height and a working area of 2m X 2m meters. Plate 7.1 shows an external view of the tunnel. The turntable inside the tunnel has a diameter of 2 meters and the inner height of the tunnel is 1 meter. Plate 7.2 shows an interior view of the tunnel with its surface roughness blocks and turbulent device. It can accommodate models scaled from 1:75 to 1:500.

The actual wind profile of this tunnel is set for urban conditions. Figure shows the theoretical and actual wind profile which corresponds to a power law with the exponential value of 0.28 (6).
