 Saudi Arabia is a middle-eastern country located in the Southwest of Asia, in the Arabian Peninsula, between 16 and 30 degrees of latitude north. It may be thought of as a wedge between of Africa and Asia, separated from them by the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf (1). The total area of  the country is about two million square kilometers. On the western border is the Red Sea and to the east is Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Oman and the Arabian Gulf. To the north is Kuwait, Iraq and Jordan and on the southern borders is Yemen and Oman. Saudi Arabia has a long Red Sea coast (1800 Km) and  a cost line of 610 Km along the Arabian Gulf. Figure 2.1. provides a map of Saudi Arabia and its neighboring countries.
